‘The voice is the muscle of the soul’ (Alfred Wolfsohn)
You don’t necessarily have to be a singer or actor to discover the joy of your own voice. Curiosity and a desire for self-expression, movement and improvisation are enough. Beyond right or wrong, can or cannot, in this work we discover all kinds of voices, sounds and melodies that live within us: whether light or dark, wild or tender, playful or contemplative, all are welcome.
We can give a voice (and thus an expression) to everything that lives within us: our thoughts, images, dreams, feelings, worries and desires. It is a process of liberation that helps us to discover, explore and integrate even the contradictory sides of ourselves. At the same time, we expand our spectrum and discover new possibilities for artistic expression.
Voice work according to Roy Hart is based on the research and work of Alfred Wolfsohn, who healed himself through singing at the end of the 1930s, traumatised by the First World War. He later passed on his work to his student Roy Hart, who continued the research and developed it into a unique art form. In the 1970s and 1980s, the Roy Hart Theatre was at the forefront of contemporary theatre and toured throughout Europe with its extraordinary productions. Today, actors, singers, therapists and ordinary people alike are attracted to this work, seeking to connect more deeply with their voice – and thus with their body and soul.
